I take it you mean Marcus Smith. He dropped off the list
in September due to the high traffic, since he needed the
time to work on his thesis and do some TA-ing.
He tells me he'll hopefully be back after his thesis is
finished, which will be by the end of December.
Regarding the Elvish, he was interviewed for some magazine
about Elvish and conlanging (the same article called Matt
Pearson "Mark" iirc). I don't think he's involved in the
movie.
Oh! And I read an article in Sweden's largest newspaper
this morning about Tolkien's languages. The journalist
seemed to think that "Quenia" [sic!] was inspired by
Celtic languages, as opposed to "Elvish" (apparently
Sindarin) which was inspired by Finnish. Then she talks
about a third language, called "Tengwar" used in LotR.
