Good point, which is why English can get away with such an atrocious
spelling system. :-) Not to mention why most accomplished readers
won't notice an error like, say, "the the" (especially if split between
lines), but frequently will notice errors like "they're" for "their" or
"there" (a personal pet peeve, incidentally), because those are DISTINCT
words.
