My girlfriend doesn't distinguish between [i:] and [y:]. She thinks
she does, but she doesn't really. And she's as Swedish as can be.
This causes trouble from time to time when I don't know if she says
[i:] or [y:], but she thinks I'm just making fun of her.
Until her 8-year-old pupils told her the same thing.
She believes me now. :)
Her vowels are overall kinda "lax". Her [O] sounds more like
the French {o} of "Lancôme", i.e. a bit schwa-y. Incidentally,
this is the correct pronunciation of Seimi {o}. (I had to throw
in an obConlang :) ).
