I'm not too good with regional American accents, not being from
America, so when I say American, I mean standard, general newsreader
that you hear in general American movies.
[{] or [&] = American anne, apple (though some accents I've heard
have the vowel in those words quite fronted)
[A] = American thaw, paw, saw
[a] = open front vowel. I don't think it happens in my dialect...
[Q] = British received pronounciation speaker (non-rhotic) saying
rot, cot
[O] = the above saying the words sort, port, court
