For those interested in actually hearing English of the period of the Great Vowel Shift (broadly15th century) there wasa wonderful opportunity at the Kalamazoo Medieval Congress, when a group did a live reading-aloud of sections from Malory's Morte d'Arthur.It really did sound halfway between Chaucer and Modern. (Though my favorite part was a friend yelping as the Questing Beast). John Leland
