Yes, we Californians fo not make a distinction between the two.
Speaking of California idiolect differences, i had a guy in my spanish
class who had a "surfer" accent. I cant write how he would say his words
in IPA (i'm not sure), but whenever he would say a vowel it would be
rounded off, and drawn out a bit (best I can describe it). He'd do this
with Spanish words and it would sound so funny.
