Personally, I understood both the English and the French of the first point, but I do
admit it was with a little difficulty.

I believe the original message was, roughly phrased, "So, for Chinese, we
wouldn't speak of the translation for a word, but rather of the translationS."

I'm not really sure what all the fuss is about, though. It didn't strike me as a
particularly significant insight, since that's true of a variety of languages
(somebody else commented on several Greek words represented by "love," while
French has "aimer" and "adorer," and so forth).
