Personally, I need feedback. So a cat won't do. Instead, I tend to
have such conversations with a native speaker - myself. This,
however, never occurs in the conscious world but in my dreams or in
deep meditation. My speech organs are still active though - so I can
still hear what is spoken. Its my way of escaping from reality. Some
revert to alcohol or drugs. But I, I take the path less travelled
by... conlanging... 8-)
Am I mentally insane or what? Perhaps we all are - perhaps its part
of being a conlanger...
