I don't know of which guarda you speak. I was simply giving the intermediate form. Gremanic or Arabic words with initial /w/ change it to /gw/ spelled {gu}. Later all initial /gw/ became . . . wait a minute. they became /b/ so that's a false form above. It should be warda > guarda > barda. /gw/ only goes to /v/ intervocalically. Oh, and that _d_ went by the wayside about six months ago. It's been Carrajena without the _d_ since quite some time before I got this email account. The most recent thing is that I realized since I raised {e} before all nasals except /m/ to {i} the spelling carajena is now archaic. It should now be Carrajina, but perhaps the spelling was left untouched by the spelling reform. Didn't Romanian do that? Preserve an archaic spelling of the name of the language when it should have been changed by a spelling reform? Adam
