My mother said that her grandfather used to say things like "ought-six",
but she was never sure whether that was a German thing (he was a German
immigrant) or an old-fashioned thing. I'm pretty sure I've never heard
it otherwise. When people refer to dates like 1906, I usually hear
"nineteen-oh-six", but, on the other hand, people also say "two thousand
(and) seven". Maybe it'll just be "seven".
