Cheat! You were not supposed to enter the contest! ;-) Actually the only version I ever heard was /Si.en/ (with the second syllable variably [.en], [.@n] or [.n=]), and I have *lived* in Norway! Most Swedes say /ski.en/ -- with accent 1 at that! -- which is strange, since _ski_ is usually mapped to /S/ in Swedish too.

:-D Where are *you* from, BTW? I must confess that I learnt to say /Si.en/ in Oslo... We 7/8 of Swedes who live outside the Greater Stockholm area just love to complain about them, and their speech in particular. I assume from your wording that the Norwegian capital is second in unpopularity only to Bergen. Good thing we Gothenburgers are so popular everywhere! ;-) /BP B.Philip Jonsson <mailto:bpj@...>bpj@netg.se <mailto:melroch@...>melroch@my-deja.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~__ Anant' avanaute quettalmar! \ \ __ ____ ____ _____________ ___ __ __ __ / / \ \/___ \\__ \ /___ _____/\ \\__ \\ \ \ \\ \ / / / / / / / \ / /Melroch\ \_/ // / / // / / / / /___/ /_ / /\ \ / /Melarocco\_ // /__/ // /__/ / /_________//_/ \_\/ /Eowine__ / / \___/\_\\___/\_\ I neer Pityancalimeo\ \_____/ /ar/ /_atar Mercasso naan ~~~~~~~~~Cuinondil~~~\_______/~~~\__/~~~Noolendur~~~~~~ || Lenda lenda pellalenda pellatellenda cuivie aiya! || "A coincidence, as we say in Middle-Earth" (JRR Tolkien)
