Tagalog has a three way distinction:
itó - this
iyán - that (near listener)
iyón - that (away from both speaker and listener)
Tagalog seems to use the above for different uses, with some changes, such
as demonstratives of place:
ditó - here
diyán - there (near listener)
doón - there (away from both)
Showing manner in verbs:
ganitó - like this
ganyán - like that
ganoón - like that
Ganitó siyá kung lumákad - Like this she when walks. Trans: She walks
like this
It's all pretty regular, and would seem artificial at first (Well, i
thought it did).
