the first consonant of the second word gets *voiced*, e.g.: *pito-pito >
hitobito, *matu-pa > matsuba, *oo-tanuki > oodanuki.
Sounds interesting, are there any books on Old Japanese grammar
I've been looking for a really long time, but all I've come up with
is a book of Basho's haiku in the original.
