Oh my yes! "Like," "sort of," "right," "y'know," and "MAN"
have all been staples of American vernacular speech on the part
of male and female speakers. As a child, I used to say it all the
time:
Maaaaaaan! That was mean! (said to a girl)
It always denoted little more than an expression of indignation or
admiration:
Man! What a cool movie!
