Darn, brain off some, was speaking more the Catholic Church when
talking priests..
But sorry, many in Ireland was not all that religious until the
Sassnach (English) forced the issue.. Priests waging war, and
having kids and more.. Not uncommon for those of a religious
group to have the idea of inheriting the profession. Brahmin the
caste, does this mean all your kids have to become priests or
what? But does the kid have the necessary calling, education and
teachings to be a priest? Or its just nice lands to inherite and
the prestige that goes along with it?
Ireland has been a land of fighting for ages, with every time
some King or lord got kicked out of England, they came to
Ireland or Scotland for soldiers, the Gallowglass and others..
Shoot their marriage and inheritance laws was all messed up, The
Brehon laws was alot of fun.. When someone can inherit all the
properties of the king, cause they had an grandfather in common?
And cause their father acknowledged them as being his kids, all
cause he slept with the kids mother..The Tuatha aka Kingdom, got
to the point in some places it was little more than the
immediate lands of the town/fort.. Cause of division, and
subdivision, with all male heirs getting a piece.. Why the
current inheritance laws are better in some ways, to a degrees.
But yes, might be a form of propoganda (how bad things was)..
(got most of the above from books by the Irish press).
Does raise a question, how to differentiate between members of
your family.
Especially when you add in things like Fostering, and cousins
and such by marriage versus blood.
I know these days, it has fun when you have step cousins, worse
is when they are not your step cousins any more, cause your
parent moved on to another marriage.. ex-Step cousins?
Cousin by Marriage? Wait, how can I marry her, shes a cousin,
but not by blood, so it is okay?
The Heir, versus the rest of the family?
As well as how to differenciate between those who are priests,
but not family, or family who are priests, lords and such?
