RealAudio has a "CD quality" mono format and a "broadcast quality" =
stereo,
both compressed to 80Kbps (compared to MP3 which has a 96Kbps "near CD
quality" compression). What you typically see is that the MP3 files on =
the
net are optimized for sound quality, which makes them huge, while the RA
files are optimized for bandwidth, which degrades the sound quality. On =
my
music page (http://members.tripod.com/Thryomanes/music.html) is a 113
second long sample of music that is compressed down to 553K (566,092 =
bytes
long), and the sound quality is still reasonable (though not CD quality).
