I don't mind using Word too much, at least as I've got it now - I went
through and disabled all of the automatic marking/altering features.  You
can type whatever you want, in any format you want, and it won't do anything
you didn't tell it to.  I've also made up a number of macros for various
formats, so it's pretty quick to use, but only with the really annoying
stuff turned off.  And I happen to think their cutesy little paper clip is
considerably less functional than a real one.
