Re: French negation - yes, it is double!

Well, I've just realized when I saw my reply that my tone was a little rough. I
just wanted to say that it didn't reflect my actual state of mind but only the
fact that I was in a hurry when I answered your post.

As for the problem of knowing whether French negation is split or double, I'd
like to make it clear that I'm no prescriptivist. My post plainly described my
own French idiolect, seen through my French native speaker intuition. I will
never pretend that my own French is more standard than any other's, I'm just
describing the French I know. Maybe in your French idiolect negation is really
double. But double negation would still be a wrong description of negation in my
idiolect. I guess we're here at a dialectical difference between various kinds
of French.

So I hope all misunderstanding is gone now, I apologize for the bad tone of my
earlier reply (I really should begin all my posts by IMOPHO: In My Own Personal
Humble Opinion :) ).

Christophe, who should re-read all his posts before sending them.

PS: I took a look at your webpage: it's nice! I must also say that your personal
experience and mine are very much alike, except that I whished I had been able
to say to my parents that I was gay when I was 16...
