Well, of course not!!
As a matter of fact, when NGE TV series first broadcasted, people in Japan
really couldn't understand what it's all about ( especially the last _two_
episodes. By the way, Henrik, you mentioned the last _three_ episodes? You
include "Nagisa Kaworu" episode? Oh, that should be an easy one. It just
redicules 'Yaoi' culture in Japan :-))

Since then, lots of people have started to express their own interpretation.
( And IMHO that's one of the reasons of its sustaining pupularity. )  If you

If you understand Japanese language, it might help to understand some of the
mysteries, for example,  shito (evangelists) v.s. hito (human being) sugests
some similarity between them. But actually it doesn't help much.

And IMO, your way of enjoying (It felt so strange that I started to think
about different things when watching it. )  is
quite popular in Japan !!.
