Brief Chronology of Conlanging, 2003-8.
2003. Fetish and personals website established for those interested
in "rubber, bondage and conlanging".
2004. SNePoC (Support Network for Partners of Conlangers) formed.
Its first newsletter asks "What to do if your partner performs
clicks in public". Membership is split on whether configurational
syntactic representation of quantifier scope is a nasty perversion
or whether it can be pleasurable if done gently and within the
context of a loving and consensual relationship.
2005. Headline "Secret vice of kinky prof" appears in tabloid
newspaper. Conlanger lecturer forced to resign for 'bringing the
university into disrepute'.
2006. Three conlangers imprisoned in Iran. Widespread prohibition of
conlanging in many countries. Riots denouncing international
jewish conspiracy to promote conlanging. Conlanging remains
legal in Britain, but new legislation makes it illegal to
'promote it in schools as a valid way of life'.
2007. Three conlangers appear on the Ricki Lake show. Widespread
disgust expressed in newspapers over this public exhibition of
ergativity. Randomly citing from Leviticus, Jerry Falwell
denounces the iniquity of pronominal clitics.
2008. First Conlang Pride marches take place simultaneously in London,
Sydney, New York and San Francisco. In London, protesters
chain themselves to Nelson's Column, proclaiming their right
to a self-segregating morphology.
