My translation was the text from Project Guttenberg
which is the 1836 edition of McGuffey's. The whole
set of readers was extensively revised and rewritten
in 1879, and the copy I entered that text from is that
later, revised edition. At the time I began the
project I was not aware that there were two editions
that differed so radically.
The new one seems the better choice because it
advances at a quicker pace to more complex sentences
and doesn't have as much pointless repetition as the
1836 edition.
