As for the matter of keeping the old ways: the whole disucssion would be
moot if unicode IPA was being used. However, for some reasons, many computer
systems are still working in "the old ways". So I don't use X-Sampa,
Kirschenbaum or any other transliteration scheme. I just write IPA, store as
a PDF file and link to it in my posts, hopefully encouraging people to
gradually improve their systems, so that in the near future, we can all just
write IPA directly, removing the need for transliteration to ascii.

I realize some people may be left out, but that's the price of progress...
