Jeff,
I can only tell you what happened in my fictional world. The Glide language was
named after the people, a subculture, who originated it, the Glides. A slave
language. But it was not derived from the prevailing language. There is no
geographical or political designation to go with the name. Just the people
themselves. Perhaps this is vaguely analagous to languages or dialects (Cajun,
maybe?) or creoles or slave languages.
