Ignorant people & diacritics

Hi!

Is it worse to leave out diacritcs totally or to put them just
anywhere?

I was just annoyed by a recipe I was sent that contained the ingredient:

>  Creme Frâiche
I did not know whether to giggle or to cry.  So I did nothing instead.

Now, would it have been better to write "Creme Fraiche" instead?

I think so, because the above not only shows lacking knowledge (which
would be ok), but some amount if ignorance and the lack of will to
look it up despite the awareness of a 'peculiarity'.
