Yes. "Put" has a rounded vowel, which I think is entrained by the /p/,
which explodes using perceptible rounding. "Book" has no such rounding.
"Could" uses a high central lax vowel rather than a high front lax vowel;
phonemically it is probably /c@d/, though the vowel is not [@] as such.
