In Kerno (and its close relatives), there is a long history of levelling
in and removal of mutations. Sometimes the mutation wins (nasalisation is
now firmly entrenched in the obl. singular); sometimes it loses (loss of
softening in the singular verb forms, spirant in the plural). Hardening
disappeared entirely centuries ago.
