I disagree, I find no trouble whatsoever in making [ixi]. Of course,
the English /i/ *does* have a tendency to be a little less fronted than
the CV /i/, but even making the cardinal vowel /i/ (that is, as far
fronted and as high as possible), [ixi] isn't that tough.
