I have recently subscribed to the World-Building list and I definitely
feel like it isn't the forum for the kind of conlang-heavy conculture
discussions that we're talking about here. While the list itself can
have some interesting stuff, I do agree with the comment that it can
get *very* detail oriented, such as the recent multi-message thread
about the process of horse domestication in North America and how that
would/should/could influence specific elements of a hypothetical
culture. Quite interesting in its own right, but a lot of bandwidth
for those of us who aren't really into that level of detail.
Likewise, I have found that CONLANG itself can be heavy on the
linguistics side, and I also feel less comfortable about conculture
postings unless there is a heavy linguistic element connected to the
culture item. This is *NOT* a problem or fault in CONLANG, any more
than what I mention above is a problem of fault in World-Building, just
a logical development of the focus of each list.
As I mentioned, I would be interested in a CONCULTURE-L list. I tried
joining the one at onelist.com, and I thought I had, but I got a bounce
a day or so later saying no such list existed. At the time, I just
left the subject alone since I was checking out World-Building anyway.
Having since decided it's not quite my cup of tea (so to speak) I would
again be interested in conculture, if we're sure it's up and running.
Could someone (Kristian?) repost the instructions and I'll give it
another shot?
