A supposedly basic division of IE languages according to whether the
descendant of PIE *kmtom '100' begins with /k/ as in Latin centum,
or /s/ as in Sanskrit satem. Roughly speaking Western vs. Eastern
respectively, but Tocharian (the most easterly IE language, extinct)
is centum-type.
