Depends on what you mean by the star. A star in front indicates "unattested form" - so we'd read "*Standard English" as something that doesn't really exist. Ironic, considering how many varieties of this "standard" we come up with during the English Pronunciation threads! A star after, "Standard English*", indicates "see note below". Since you actually wrote a note below, I suspect you meant the star after variety.
