It's because I have it in emacs, that I want bash/readline to have it as well. That's actually related to the keyboard/mouse thing, in the sense of changing interfaces: I find myself wanting to stay in the readline interface even though my perl oneliner has really gotten too long for that --- because the effort of moving it to a file and using another interface to edit it there will break my concentration.
