"This story shall the wise man teach his son;
And Padraig shall ne'er go by,
>From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd; We few, we merry few, we band of drunkards; For he to-day that spills his beer with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so gentle, This day shall vile his condition: And gentlemen in Ireland now a-bed Shall think themselves ablessed they were not here, Yet hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That drank with us upon Saint Patrick's day!
