I seem to recall reading that, because of other languages' influence, modern Hebrew forms its relative clauses in the fashion typical of many IE languages: with a relative pronoun that to some extent inflects for case/gender/number, whereas Biblical Hebrew formed relative clauses in a different way typical of Semitic languages. Perhaps some Hebrew expert can confirm or correct this recollection. I may be mistaken. Doug
