You need not be confused. I heard both _nikudot_ and _nekudot_ in modern
usage. The question in the original message was rather a rhetoric one.
For certainty, Dan Sulani or Steg Belski may know better, but I'm not sure
if they are on the list at the moment.
ObConlang: I needed this info, because I am going to revive my old idea of
an Arabo-Romance conlang for an alternative time line - something like
Mozarabic survived.
