Well, from what I understand, they were originally shown sometimes at
8:20 and sometimes at 10:10, both of which allowed the brand name to be
unobscured by the hands and allow watches that had a date function to
show that as well, but they noticed that ads showing the watches at
10:10 tended to do slightly better, because the resemblance to a smile
made the watch look "more friendly".

Hmm, you may be right. It does look odd without a hyphen. Oh, well.
But, hey, any word can be all typed with the left hand, it's just faster
to use both hands! ;-) (And, of course, this is all assuming you're
using the Qwerty keyboard, with a Dvorak keyboard, everything would be
different)
