The penile surgery that I underwent involved a combination of local
(actually spinal) anaesthetic and "twilight sleep" drugs. My surgeon
would have preferred a general anaesthetic, but based on my bad
after-reaction to my last general, the anaesthesiologist chose the
combination. The only problem was that the surgery ran longer than
expected, and the spinal wore off before the surgeon was *quite*
finished.
I didn't feel pain, exactly, rather discomfort and a sense of being,
well, manipulated.
