I'll just mention here that Danish maintains distinctions in both these cases that English doesn't. Tante and onkel are reserved for aunts and uncles by marriage --- for your parents' siblings you use faster (~ fathersister), farbror, moster, morbror; grandparents are mormor, morfar, farmor, farfar.
