Not really. A simple dative like "John gives the book to Mary" would use the allative (as in Finnish). The benefactive is more abstract in sense like "John does the homework for Mary" or "John spent years in prison for Mary('s sake)".

So I would need other names for all "these above and below" cases? Any ideas? -bju means "stationary below/under" or "moving from below/under" -rtja means "moving to below/under" -ti means "stationary (up)on/over" or "moving from (up)on/over" -bu means "movin to (up)on/over" If it is -bu which is "sublative" in your terminology, what does that make -rtja in your terminology? Superlative?

An example of its meaning: > >ta:ma: on jo tulo~nnu koosse soldatind. >3sg is already arrived home-ALLATIVE soldier-EXCESSIVE He has already >returned home from being a soldier. (Meaning, he isn't a soldier anymore). > >It works the same way in Madzhi.
Cool, but this is not what the Saslupa -ra case means; it would be used in cases like "The horses are outside the house" [horses] [house]-ra I think I shall call it "exteressive". /BP 8^)> -- B.Philip Jonsson mailto:melrochX@melroch.net (delete X) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~__ A h-ammen ledin i phith! \ \ __ ____ ____ _____________ ____ __ __ __ / / \ \/___ \\__ \ /___ _____/\ \\__ \\ \ \ \\ \ / / / / / / / \ / /Melroch\ \_/ // / / // / / / / /___/ /_ / /\ \ / /Melarokko\_ // /__/ // /__/ / /_________//_/ \_\/ /Eowine __ / / \___/\_\\___/\_\ Gwaedhvenn Angeliniel\ \______/ /a/ /_h-adar Merthol naun ~~~~~~~~~Kuinondil~~~\________/~~\__/~~~Noolendur~~~~~~ || Lenda lenda pellalenda pellatellenda kuivie aiya! || "A coincidence, as we say in Middle-Earth" (JRR Tolkien)
