Try _The Korean Alphabet_ ed. by Young-Key Kim-Renaud. It's got a lot of essays on exactly that, adn the phonetics as well. I don't guarantee it has what you're looking for (and I don't have time to read the whole thing at the moment), but it's a place to start. YHL
