As a side note, in my 'lect of Swedish, the distinction isn't one of length, but of quality. /E/ is [E] and /E:/ is [&], if I trust these recordings (I still try to learn IPA): http://www.phonetics.ucla.edu/course/chapter1/vowels.html Maybe this chart is more correct, I don't know: http://tinyurl.com/2xx2yp Where to find better recordings (if this isn't correct)?
