I'm pretty sure that they're universal to Human languages. Most
cultures will place the king or emperor or whatever on a raised throne,
for example, allowing the king to "look down upon" his subjects. Many
urbanized societies will forbid structures that are taller than the
palace or other important building.
Incidentally, in the palace of the Western Empress at Iabittu/Zhavets,
the throne room uses forced perspective to make the Empress look several
times larger than she actually is. :-)
