Well, Germans often think they are slighted in the
Netherlands because of some unfortunate bits of
mutual history. They might even be right, in some cases.
My grandfather's generation still wanted their bikes
back and sent Germans immer gerade aus when they asked
for directions.

So when John told us about his canal boat experience
I quickly pointed out that any perceived slight was
not there -- we just use the alphabetical order. The fact
that the fib only works in English, and definately not
in Dutch was intended.
