First cousin once removed. It's either one's parent's first cousin
(grandfather's nephew) or one's first cousin's child (uncle's
grandson): one generation difference. A great-nephew is one's
brother's grandson: two generations difference.
Let's assume that all these people are men:
A ---- B A and B are brothers

C E C and E are first cousins

| |
D F D and F are second cousins
A is F's great-uncle and F is A's great-nephew; same with B and D, of
course.
A is E's uncle and E is A's nephew; same with B and C.
D and E, as well as C and F, are first cousins once removed.
For cousins more than once removed we'd have to drag in the
great-grandfather.
