Well, in this context it means diphthongs are less pronounced in the
Kiwi accent than the Aussie one. Kiwi vowels and diphthongs are just
a bit too clipped for my taste. Which makes me think...
The Kiwi accent is essentially the Aussie accent with all the
vowels and dipthongs converted to `u'.

It didn't really take me long to cotton on. I was challenged to
guess where he was from and I guessed he was from Enzed seeing
as his accent just didn't sound right.
The fact I've seen a couple of episodes of Shortland Street didn't
hurt either...
