That seems to me to be a pretty major difference. Consonants don't
really play all that big a difference in English accents (exceptions
apply, but they serve more to define categories then be a feature of the
accent, but there are exceptions to that rule, too).

What, exactly, defines a broad accent?---And anyway, wouldn't that
really be a fairly invalid statement,

LOLOLOL! I agree with that one. Not that it's something that needs to be
learnt. Everyone should be able to tell the difference, it's clear as
day. It's as obvious as the difference between, say, Aussie and Cockney
or RP.
