Yes, you have to use the article:

A los niños les gustan LOS libros.

Your teachers are right!! ;-))

(this sentence in Spanish is ambiguous: it can mean "Children - in general -
like books - in general -", "Children - in general - like THE books", "THE
children - we know - like books - in general -" or "THE children like THE
books". )

Don't you have to use the definite article in this kind of construction? A los niños les gustan _los_ libros. Or are all my teachers wrong? (Maybe they've told me otherwise, but I've forgotten that :) Jessica Husen
