Based on my experience as a learner, teacher and observer of learners of
Indonesian, I would say yes-- it's an easy language to get into quickly, and
Indonesians (maybe not Malaysians) are so accustomed to hearing a huge range
of good<-->bad spoken language that they are very forgiving of foreigners'
efforts.

That is also true. Some written Indonesian is right up there with Micro$soft
manuals.
