Away back in the 60s-70s, when Chomskyism and old-fashioned Linguistics were
fighting it out--- a Prof. of mine commented to the effect:
"When you've just given your presentation on the phonology and morphology of
the Amazonian language you've spent 3 years in the field working on...it
doesn't go over well when some MIT type stands up to comment, 'But that's
trivial'..." :-)) or :_((
