<G>  I think their strength is that a fantasy reader can read them fairly
comfortably, and a sf reader can too (generally--there are always
exceptions).  I don't know how I figured out agenothree--maybe there was
an author's note or something, but I do remember looking up nitric acid
in 4th grade.
