Otto Jesperson was the most respected linguist of his time, and headed Ido for a while. His understanding of English was unsurpassed ... funny, that foreigners like Joseph Conrad and Vladimir Nabokov can so master English. Just musing; they could probably have mastered anything from Tibetan to Hausa too.
